Light Rail Quells the Critics May 31, 2008

Even the ultra-conservative critics of the McCrory Line are coming around since Charlotte’s light rail has experienced great success (ridership has exceeded expectations):
“I have to admit, they are doing better than I expected,” said former Mecklenburg County commissioner Jim Puckett, who helped lead a failed effort to repeal the half-cent sales tax for mass transit last fall. “Our concern was whether we would have a white elephant, and it doesn’t seem we do.”
woohoo!
On another note, CATS is saying because of the high cost of diesel they’re going to need to increase fares from $1.20 to $1.50 on both buses and the train… help me understand why an electric train is effected by gas prices?
time to switch to natural gas buses, or better yet, hybrid.
i rode the rail from downtown to 485 and back when visiting downtown in june. i would do it every day if i lived there. convenient and fast.
